Ask Brandon: What’s It Like Being A Sleep Expert?

I’ve been a proud team member at Gallery Furniture for more than 13 years and I couldn’t dream of better fit for me! I am truly a sponge when it comes to all thing sleep so, thanks for allowing me to share about myself this week!

Q: What does an average day for you consist of?

A: Thanks for asking! I normally get 8-10 hours of sleep a night, and then head in to work between 8-9AM every day. I check my email and the LinkedIn groups I am part of for sleep-health related news to read as I get my day started. After checking those 2 destinations, I always read the new sleep health articles on our Gallery Furniture Sleep Center blog to make sure I’m not only knowledgeable on what each article pertains to but,  also to ensure that I’ll know exactly what any in store visitor who read the blog that day is referring to, it makes for great conversation! Then, I check The Wall Street Journal and Google News for mattress, bedding or sleep health related articles that I have not already read while we get the day started in store. Afterwards, I spend the remainder of my day interacting with our great supporters and visitors about mattresses, sleep, sleep health, and anything related. I also spend time working with our vendors on new orders and new products. On my days off, I always spend them with my 6 year old daughter who is absolute joy! Thanks for asking!

Q: Does Mattress Mac send you guys out to study and do the plant tours? My dad used to work with you guys, doing delivery!

A: That’s so awesome please give your Dad our best regards! Many times I am invited by different manufacturers based on their needs and my experience with the company. Occasionally Mack does pay for me to go visit such as when I visited Vi-Spring in Britain, or Hastens in Sweden. He’s a great guy as I’m sure your dad would agree!

Q: Being a sleep expert must be amazing; I didn’t know you can go pro in sleeping. What is like to be able to fall asleep on command? Being an expert of your stature– how many days can you sleep for simultaneously?

A: Haha, I love this fun question! Since I am an insomniac, I’m lucky to sleep for 1/2 a day all the way through. Unfortunately, I’m unable to go fall asleep on command. My boss Mack is pretty good at it though! We’ve rode on planes together where he can go to sleep pretty darn quickly. So much so I even lost sleep myself trying to study his technique!

I genuinely love what I do and I’m glad you all are having a great time learning and making sleep fun! Sleep affects every area of our lives. If you aren’t feeling well or performing your best, ask yourself, “Did I get enough sleep last night?”
