How did you all sleep last night? In case you haven’t had a chance to look at some our other Q&A articles, I am Brandon Jackson, a sleep expert who has worked at Gallery Furniture for more than 14 years. Q: I have a rather expensive Serta Spring mattress with a thick foam topper that I have had for about 2 years. It is very comfortable but it is HOT! I live in Florida so it is always hot here. I sleep with an A/C unit at the foot of my bed and a fan blowing directly on my feet. I have much difficulty staying asleep because I wake up so hot I can’t stand it. I have to move to a new spot every hour or so. Is there anything I can get to help sleep cooler? There are so many cool toppers that I’m not sure what products are genuine. Cool gel foam, air foam, I have no idea where to start!!

A: I recommend that you check out a product called a “ChiliPad,” which ranges from 55-110 degrees Fahrenheit as it allows you to control your ideal sleep temperature all night long. I laid eyes on one at furniture market recently that was practically ice cold! Other suggestions include making sure you have a mattress protector in place as well as good sheets on the bed. However, the ChiliPad could be a big help for a significant temperature change.  Unfortunately, we don’t carry this product at Gallery Furniture, but it is a great product worth looking into!

Q: I cannot get up in the morning. No matter if I sleep a little or a lot I just hate getting out of bed. I can cope with coffee, but I still feel horrible for a few hours at least. By the time I stop feeling tired from the morning I am beginning to get tired for the night. What should I be looking into as far as solutions or problems?

A: To be accurate, are you going to bed and waking up tired? If so, you may have sleep apnea. Sleep apnea is a sleep disorder characterized by not breathing for short periods of time, multiples times a night. People who suffer from sleep apnea are not getting enough oxygen while they sleep, which can lead to feeling fatigued throughout the day. Please keep in mind that it’s not just people of a certain body type who have sleep apnea.  Literally, I know a 3 week old baby who was diagnosed with it recently (extended families’ new baby) so it’s not a negative thing, simply a sleep related disorder. If you think you have sleep apnea, I highly advise consulting your family physician for a reference for a certified local sleep clinic who could help you conduct a thorough test to find out if you have sleep apnea or not. Thank you for asking!

Q: Long story short, I had a dream about this girl around 5 years ago and I’ve been looking for her since then. What are my chances of her just being a figment of my imagination? Like 99.99%? Also is Lucid dreaming real? Why do I have dreams about negative thing far more often than positive things?

A: Dreaming is a reflection of consciousness, we dream things that we experience; chances are you have had some sort of experience with this girl. It is a hotly debated subject, but most experts agree that Lucid Dreaming is a real phenomenon.

Make sure that you are getting 7-9 hours of sleep every night to be your best! Anything that is preventing you from accomplishing that goal that you have control over, make those adjustments where need.
